Meta Ray-Ban AI Glasses Privacy Update Adds Restrictions on Non-Consensual Recording

Meta has begun rolling out a firmware security update for its Ray-Ban Meta AI smart glasses aimed at reducing covert video recording. The update increases the minimum illumination intensity of the front-facing capture LED and uses optical sensors to disable camera functionality if the indicator light is covered by tape or stickers.

While privacy advocates acknowledge the firmware improvements, regulatory bodies in Europe and the US continue to examine bystander consent mechanisms as camera-equipped smart glasses become widespread in public spaces.
