Open-source Firebase alternative Supabase has expanded its cloud platform capabilities by launching Always-On Agent Compute Nodes designed specifically for persistent background AI workers.

Unlike short-lived serverless Edge Functions that time out after minutes, the new compute nodes provide persistent memory, local disk access, and direct low-latency connections to Postgres databases. This enables AI agents to maintain long-running stateful loops and perform continuous data ingestion.

Developers can deploy stateful agent nodes using familiar CLI commands, bringing serverless flexibility to complex background automation.
