The surge in contract cancellations follows municipal audits revealing out-of-state law enforcement agencies accessed local vehicle tracking databases without proper warrants.

Civil liberties organizations, including the ACLU, applauded the municipal decisions, pointing to automated vehicle tracking network risks and lack of strict data retention safeguards. Flock Safety stated it is introducing enhanced audit logs and stricter cross-jurisdictional access permissions to address city concerns.
