US Administration Evaluates Up to 100% Tariffs on Foreign Semiconductor Imports

The United States government is reviewing a comprehensive proposal to impose tariffs of up to 100% on foreign-manufactured semiconductors, specialized server chassis, and finished technology components. The proposed trade policy aims to force global tech conglomerates to accelerate domestic manufacturing investments.

Semiconductor industry associations and cloud infrastructure providers have strongly cautioned against the aggressive tariff schedule, warning that immediate price increases could stall multi-billion-dollar data center expansion projects and inflate consumer prices for smartphones, laptops, and electric vehicles.

Economists note that while domestic fab construction under the CHIPS Act has expanded operational capacity, reliance on overseas advanced packaging and OSAT facilities remains a critical supply chain bottleneck for the next several years.
