For years, Walmart resisted universal NFC standards to push users toward its proprietary Walmart Pay QR-code system. However, customer demand and updated register hardware led leadership to embrace open mobile wallet standards.
Shoppers can now complete purchases seamlessly using smartphones and smartwatches, bringing Walmart in line with virtually all major nationwide retailers.
