Walmart Formally Rolls Out Apple Pay and Google Pay Support Across All US Stores

In a landmark reversal of its decade-long payment policy, retail giant Walmart has officially enabled Apple Pay, Google Pay, and standard contactless NFC card payments at checkout registers across all U.S. store locations.

Walmart previously resisted third-party mobile wallets in favor of its proprietary QR-code-based Walmart Pay app. However, overwhelming customer demand and universal consumer adoption of tap-to-pay smartphones prompted retail executives to activate contactless payment terminals nationwide.

Retail analysts view the move as a win for consumer convenience, accelerating checkout transaction speeds during peak shopping hours while preserving Walmart Pay functionality within the main mobile app for integrated loyalty rewards.
