The change is designed to unify performance metrics across long-form YouTube videos, YouTube Shorts, and autoplaying feeds. Creators across the platform are expected to see public view numbers increase by 15% to 30% almost overnight.
YouTube emphasized that creator monetization revenue models (CPM and watch-time thresholds) will remain tied to total engagement seconds, preventing short clicks from skewing ad payouts.
